FCS at a glance
In this page, brief information about the Faculty of Communication Sciences (FCS) is provided to help you obtain a bird's-eye view of its potentials and facilities at a short glance.
History
- Initially established in 1967 as the then Higher Institute for Press and Public Relations;
- Started to enrol students in Masters degree in Journalism and Communication Science since 1990;
- Started to admit students in PhD degree of Communication Science in 1996;.
- In 2004, the Faculty offered 3 bachelors degree programmes in "Communication Studies", "Journalism", and "Public Relations";
- In 2015, the Faculty was separated from the Faculty of Social Sciences and moved to its new campus;
- In 2018 the UNESCO Chair on Communication of Science and Technology was established in the Faculty.
Academics
The FCS Faculty has 3 departments, namely the
- Department of Communication Science;
- Department of Journalism;
- Department of Public Relations.
To date, 8 degree programmes are offered in the Faculty. The programme names are briefly available in the following figure.

Faculty Members
To date, a total of 22 full-time faculty members are providing educational and research services to students at Bachelors, Masters, and PhD levels. As of November 2020, a total of 82 visiting lecturers are also providing part-time support to the teaching activities in the Faculty.

Research
Faculty of Communication Sciences is currently publishing a journal in Persian. The Journal of New Media Studies is an open-access, double-blind, peer-reviewed scholarly journal published in print and online versions. It is available from its website.
Library
There is a library in FCS, keeping a catalogue of more than 19450 volumes in English and Persian. There are also tens of Masters theses and PhD in the library, and users may enjoy free online access to all theses and dissertations at ATU's Digital Library portal.
