"ATU is prepared to set up a Science and Technology Park in Humanities," Motamedi Says.

Report by the Directorate for International Academic Cooperation –

On Tuesday, 5 April 2022, Dr Mohammadali Zolfigol, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, and a delegation from the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT) visited ATU and talked about ATU's outstanding position in Humanities. During this visit, Dr Mostafa Rostami, Head of the Supreme Leader's Representative Office in Universities; Dr Ali Kheiroddin, Vice-Minister for Technology and Innovation; Dr Ghasem AmuAbedini, Vice-Minister for Academics, and Dr Ali Khatibi, Vice-Minister for Resource Development and Management, accompanied the MSRT CEO. Moreover, ATU's President, vice-presidents, deans, department heads, and a number of directors and faculty members from ATU participated in this event.

During this event and following the speech delivered by the MSRT Minister (read relevant news from here), Professor Abdollah Motamedi, ATU President, pointed out that ATU is well prepared to establish a Science and Technology Park in Humanities. He said that ATU has faculties and departments like the ECO College of Insurance and the Faculty of Persian Literature and Foreign Languages, whose graduates enjoy a near 100% employability rate. However, parts of the humanities are not applicable and domestic enough, requiring us to establish necessary connections between humanities scholars and the market. This is achieved by setting up a Science and Technology Park at ATU.

Dr Motamedi then added that ATU has the capacity to address national challenges, and we need the Ministry of the Interior's help to attain this goal. Motamedi then pointed to the efforts made by the university since his appointment to draft a new strategic plan (2022-2026). In this respect, ATU has chosen the "Becoming reference in humanities" phrase as its vision and motto, and it hopes to attain this goal.

He then added that ATU is going to pursue an evolution in the humanities, as the point recently emphasized by the Supreme Leader and needed by the Iranian community, so it can contribute to the decisions made to address local challenges. According to Motamedi, this is partly attainable through directing the humanities in Iran towards the Quran, Islam, and other epistemological aspects of Iranian society.
